| Opinion abounds that this is Japan's best season for holiday-making; one in which tranquil, clear days are continuous. In mid-October, the mountain peaks and slopes are painted with the reds of mountain ash and maple, and the yellows of beech and birch. Locations for autumn foliage viewing are everywhere, but especially popular are Mt. Tanigawa and Oze, as well as the neighborhood of the Kusatsu Shirane, Mt. Akagi, Mt. Haruna, Mt.Myogi and many others. At various places in the prefecture, lively autumn festivals herald the season. |
| Mt. Tanigawa (Minakami Town) |
| The scenery around Mt. Tanigawa's 1,977m elevation is in every way comparable to that of the Japan Alps' 3,000m high mountains. Its Alp-like peaks, valleys and crags present a popular and awe-inspiring, spectacular viewing experience. It is one of Japan's leading rock climbing and mountaineering sites. |

| Mt. Myogi (Tomioka City) |
| Undoubtedly one of Japan's three major scenic spots, with fantastic rock formations closely cropped together and molding a dramatic natural beauty. Spring's new greenery and autumn leaves wrapped around precipitous cliffs present without doubt a particularly fantasy-like experience of scenic Japan. |

| Mt. Shirane (Kusatsu Town) |
| In some mountain areas, there are remains of volcanic eruptions that offer unique vistas that are extremely lovely in their autumn finery. A ride up the Shirane Volcano ropeway offers a birds-eye view of mountains adorned in autumn leaves. |

| Fukiwari Falls (Tone City) |
| With a drop of 7m and a width of about 30m, these falls are often referred to as Asia's Niagara in miniature. The water volume, largest from spring to early summer, creates a stirring sight, and the autumn colors of the gorge are marvelous to behold. |

| Ikaho Festival (Ikaho Spa) |
| Portable shrines are boisterously carried up and down the 360 stone steps in the town center, and together with the geisha shrines and floats. This spa town offers a particularly lively experience. |
| Maebashi Festival (Maebashi City) |
| In time to the beat of a heroic Maebashi "karyu" drum, there is dancing to the raucous sound of ginko wood clappers modeled after the city gingko trees. The "Maebashi Danbee Dance" marks the high point of the festival. |
