| This is a famous spa town with 360 stone steps on the northeastern slope of Mt. Haruna. The ancient baths and waters are mentioned in the Manyo-shu, Japan's oldest anthology of poems from 9th century, and in the Kokinwaka-shu, an anthology of waka poems from the 10th century. The waters are touted to be blessed and especially beneficial to children. |
